The Purple Rose Theatre Company was awarded a total of $18,939 from MCACA for the period of October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019. The grant, which must be matched dollar-for-dollar by other private resources, was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and was one of over 600 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2019 funding. Total estimated project cost, contracted and managed by A. R. Brouwer Company in Dexter, is anticipated to be $68,470. Implementation will occur between productions, beginning January 2-14.
Local support of the project included Ford Motor Company Fund, Kohler Company, an Anonymous Foundation and various private donors.
The theatre’s existing fully-accessible lobby toilet rooms (last updated in 2005) have served an audience approaching a half-million persons over a total of 3,600 performances. Renovation planning, funding and phased implementation of these capital improvements began in Spring 2018 and will feature American-manufactured, highly durable products. We anticipate completion by January 15, 2019.
The renovation includes: demolition of existing toilet rooms, installation of porcelain tile floors (designed to earn LEED credits), new wall coverings and paint, easy-clean laminate toilet partitions, linear heaters, Kohler sinks & faucets, toilet accessories and Corian quartz counter tops (green building certified) and water cooler. Michigan tradespersons will perform a variety of trades: carpentry, plumbing, electrical/HVAC and painting.
Please take note and enjoy our refreshed facilities during the 28th season! As a result, this project completes our Purple Rose Theatre Entrance Lobby upgrades begun in 2017-2018 (including new heating/ventilation and cooling that serve patrons in this area).
